Euthanasia/Cremation

Perhaps the kindest thing you can do for an animal that is terminally ill, aged or so severely injured it will never have a good quality of life is to induce his or her death quietly and humanely through euthanasia.

We recommend that you discuss the euthanasia of your pet with your veterinarian. If you and your veterinarian decide euthanasia is the best course of action, we recommend your veterinarian perform the procedure at his/her office.

If you choose to use the euthanasia services of the Humane Society, we ask that you call first and bring in your pet during our regular business hours. This service is only available Monday through Friday.

Please be aware that the Humane Society reserves the right to refuse euthanasia services if ownership of the animal or its medical or behavioral condition cannot be confirmed. Please be prepared to provide documentation from a veterinarian of your pet's condition. We do not have a veterinarian available to diagnose or treat your pet's medical condition.

If you wish to be present during your pet's euthanasia, you must call in advance to make an appointment with the Society's veterinarian. The veterinarian has a very limited number of appointments available for owners to be present for euthanasia, and the service may not be available at all on some days. Being present for the euthanasia of a pet may not be possible for walk-in clients.

As you make your decision to euthanize a pet, please consider how you would like to care for your pet's remains. The Society has a crematorium on-site and can return your pet's remains to you if you prefer. There is an additional cost associated with having your pet's remains returned to you. We can also order personalized urns for your pet's remains, for your convenience.

Fees for all services are dependent upon the animal's weight. Please call (518) 434-8128 for fee information or to make an appointment.
