Happy Tail: Prue

If you had asked me a couple years ago, I would have sworn up and down that I was not a cat person. Now we have four of them, and I couldn't be happier about it! My wife and I adopted our first cat, Polly, from the Humane Society in November, 2008. She was our baby for six months, until she got spooked and broke free from her leash and harness while out for a walk one day. As part of our search for her, we regularly checked the Humane Society. One Saturday a month or two later, we went in and found three little black and white kittens rolling around with each other in their cage. We exchanged one of those looks that said, "We know we shouldn't, but we have to." We went into the petting cage with all three, and that was that. We couldn't in good conscience separate the sisters, so we didn't: we adopted all three of them. Now Prue, Priscilla, and Portia are our three little munchkins that we couldn't imagine life without. They are still incredibly playful with each other, and all are definite cuddlebugs.

A few months later, we went into PetSmart in Latham to pick up more food and litter. While there, we went over to look at the cats up for adoption without any intent of actually getting one of them. There was one little tabby kitten that was just a little package of dynamite, very playful and forward. Once again, we were taken by surprise and left the store with our other little girl, whom we have renamed Pearl (she was Empress, but that name did not seem to fit either her or the "P-name" theme we had going). Originally, we had worried she wouldn't integrate well with the three sisters, but Pearl had no such concerns. The first day the cats interacted, Pearl just threw her front paws around a very startled Portia's neck. That spooked the three elder girls, but since then, they've become family - cuddling, fighting, grooming each other. So we have four pets, and would never go anywhere but the Humane Society to adopt others!
