MHRHS History
We have been serving the community since 1887 by providing care for animals in need of shelter. We invite you to take a few moments to page through our site to learn more about our services. It is through your very generous support that we have been able to provide quality care for the animals of Albany, Rensselaer and other counties.
Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society offers such diverse services as finding homes for animals, providing shelter for lost animals, offering assistance to owners of lost animals and microchipping. In addition, MHRHS sponsors various community education and outreach programs throughout the year. Our field services include rescue and care of injured or distressed animals, investigation of reports of animal abuse and neglect, and enforcement of Agriculture & Markets laws. In addition to its on-site and field personnel, MHRHS is assisted by a team of volunteers who help to support and maintain the health of animals residing at the shelter and participate in various fundraising and community activities.
MHRHS Mission Statement
To improve the lives of homeless and abused animals through sheltering, adoption, education and advocacy, as well as the prevention of animal cruelty.
Vision
We envision a community in which it is unacceptable to neglect, abuse or abandon animals; in which homeless animals will be given refuge in an appropriate facility; and that ensures every adoptable animal finds a home.
